My Story…
As a Black man from Mississippi, participating in Opal’s Walk for Freedom is not only personal—it’s a responsibility. I believe in honoring and protecting our cultural history, especially the legacy of Juneteenth. As men, we’re often looked to as leaders in our communities and families, and it’s important that we lead by example when it comes to preserving the stories and sacrifices that shaped our freedom.
Growing up in the South, I’ve seen the weight of that history—the pain, the progress, and the pride. Opal Lee’s determination to make Juneteenth a national holiday shows what relentless commitment can achieve, and it inspires me to do my part.
I’m also proud that my wife’s workplace is standing behind this initiative. It speaks volumes when our professional environments acknowledge the deeper meaning behind Juneteenth.
